From WordPress to a static site: faster, better designed and more SEO-friendly with AI
For many years a business website meant WordPress. It was easy, there were ready-made themes, and a plugin solved everything. But that ease has a price: slowness, bloat and constant maintenance. Today the picture has changed — AI has made it many times easier than before to produce static sites that are far faster, stronger in design and SEO-friendly.
Why does WordPress get slow?
The problem is not that WordPress is "bad"; it is the nature of its architecture. Every time a visitor opens a page, the following happens in the background: the server runs PHP code, sends several queries to the database, gathers the files of the theme and the plugins, builds the page there and then, and sends it. This cycle repeats with every click.
- Plugin load: every plugin adds its own CSS/JS. On a site with 15-20 plugins, the page grows to 3-5 MB and load time to several seconds.
- The database round trip: even if the content rarely changes, every visit means database queries from scratch.
- Theme bloat: ready-made themes designed to "do everything" carry the code for hundreds of features you do not use.
- Constant maintenance and security: core, theme and plugin updates; security vulnerabilities; incompatibilities. The site becomes a "living" but fragile system.
Speed is the detail the visitor does not see, yet the most expensive one. A slow-loading site loses you both the customer and your Google ranking.
What is a static site, and why is it so fast?
A static site sends the browser ready-made HTML, CSS and images directly. There is no PHP to run on the server, no database to query, no page to build on the fly — the page is already there. It is served within milliseconds from CDN servers all over the world.
The result: TTFB (time to first byte) drops below a second, loading is several times faster, server cost falls to almost nothing and, with no back end to hack, the security burden disappears too. For showcase sites, company websites and sites whose content rarely changes, static is technically the most efficient option by a wide margin.
"But static sites were hard to build and update" — that is now in the past
The classic objection to static was this: updating content without knowing code is hard, and designing and building from scratch takes effort. That was true. AI has changed exactly this point. Every step is now faster, from design to code, from converting an existing WordPress site to static to fine-tuning SEO.
How has AI made the web "better designed, faster and more SEO-friendly"?
It makes a difference on three fronts at once:
- Better designed: you are not stuck with the template look of a ready-made theme. With an AI-assisted process, original, brand-specific interfaces are designed and turned into code within hours. Typography, layout, micro-interactions — all yours, not a template.
- Faster: AI produces clean, lean code and carries no unused CSS/JS. It optimises images automatically and keeps the page light. What comes out is not a 3 MB WordPress page but a lightning-fast site of a few hundred KB.
- More SEO-friendly: correct title and description tags, structured data (schema), a sitemap, clean semantic HTML, fast Core Web Vitals — all of these can now be put in place as standard, quickly and consistently. SEO becomes a built-in feature, not something patched on afterwards.
So if the question is "have sites really got better with AI?", the answer is clear: yes. Used properly, AI raises design quality while delivering speed and SEO at the same time — these used to be competing goals, each requiring separate effort.
How does the move from WordPress to static work in practice?
We migrate your existing site without throwing it away:
- Extracting content and design: all the pages, text and images of your site are taken out.
- Rebuilding / converting: either the existing look is converted to static exactly as it is, or it is upgraded to a sleeker, faster interface with an AI-assisted process.
- Optimisation: images are compressed, code is trimmed, SEO tags and schema are set up.
- Publishing: the site goes onto a CDN such as Netlify. The result: the same content, on a site that is many times faster and runs without maintenance.
Static for everyone? The honest answer
No. For large multi-author news or blog sites whose content changes many times a day, or for advanced membership and payment flows, a content management system can still make sense. But for company websites, service and showcase sites, portfolios and businesses whose content is updated occasionally, the combination of static + AI is by far the best choice today: faster, more secure, cheaper and better looking.
That is exactly what we do: we move slow, bloated systems to static sites that are fast, well designed and set up for SEO — or we build them that way from scratch.
