Google Business Profile: how do local customers find you?
When someone searches for "furniture maker near me", "CNC machining in my city" or "precast concrete company", Google shows a few businesses on the map and at the top of the page. Being on that list is the difference between the phone ringing and silence. And the way onto it runs through a free tool: Google Business Profile.
What is Google Business Profile?
Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business) is your company's official card on Google Search and Maps. Your name, address, phone number, opening hours, photos and customer reviews appear there. And it is completely free.
Why does it matter so much?
- High-intent customers: someone searching "near me" is looking for a service, not information. This is the customer closest to buying.
- Map visibility: without a profile you are not on the map; if your competitor is, the customer goes to them.
- First impression: the star rating, reviews and photos let the customer decide "can I trust them?" before they ever call you.
- Direct action: with one tap the customer calls, gets directions or goes to your website.
Being in the top three in local search is worth more than the best advertisement — because the customer has already arrived intending to call someone like you.
How to keep your profile strong
Enter complete and accurate information
Address, phone, opening hours, category and services should all be filled in. The most common mistake is having the same details written differently on the website and on the profile; consistency increases Google's trust in you.
Add photos and keep them current
Photos of the shop, the factory, the products and the team keep the profile alive. Businesses with photos get noticeably more clicks.
Manage your reviews
Ask satisfied customers for reviews, and reply politely to every review you receive — positive or negative. Your replies show potential customers that the company pays attention.
Make it work together with your website
The profile finds the customer, then sends them to your website. If your site is fast, mobile-friendly and makes it easy to get in touch, the interest coming from the profile turns into sales. The two are parts of one whole.
When we build your business website, we also set up your Google Business Profile properly and bring it into line with the site — so local customers can find you and reach you easily.
